getting touch with people

Hi Jacob,

I've not heard from you for a while and I hope you are well. I am still self-employed even though there isn't a lot of work with the holidays etc but I like the fact that every day is different.

I have recently completed a piece of work on a cartoon for a friend of mine. He studies animation in Leeds and I wrote and played music for it. Unfortunately he insisted that the cartoon is not shown to anyone until the final version is ready (hoping to complete it some time next week). He and I have been talking about a posibility of working together on a more elaborate piece, which he wants to be his disertation. We want to use mime. The facilities at his college are excellent, there are professional cameras and there is green screen, which allowes you to remove background completely and insaert anything else. Multimedia will be haevily involved in the project.

My ideas included:

  • Waht I called "Alice falling through the rabbit hole" - basically a floating figure travelling along shelves etc picking objects, using a combination of drawings and live figures
  • Mime figures of different size interacting, for example one mime pulling another one out of his pocket and that one pulling the next one out of his pocket etc
  • Something I've been thinking about for a while, inspired by King Crimson's 'Starless and Bible Black' - world of a blind man seen from two perspectives, the crowd where he is walking, say a lit room with figures walking but you can see everyone but him, everyone is stumbling over him, walking round him while the blind man is invisible. The second perspective is only the man in a black room where you can see him miming walking through the crowd. And some sort of change between the two worlds. There has to be a resolution as well. I am not sure what it may be but I was thinking along the lines of Mareau's Bip where bird keeper flies at the end. For the musinc I will either write something myself or, while the project is academic in nature, I may write to King Crimson and ask for a free license to use 'Starless and Bible Black'
I wonder if you would be interested to join in the project. I sort of need a confirmation sooner rather than later, sorry about this. The deadline for completion is sometime next summer but the guy needs to offer his general idea very soon. So, as I said, sorry to rush, but if you are inetersted then could you please let me know. Naturally I would like to involve Tom and Leor and anyone else who wants to join.

The mission, shoul you choose to accept it will involve setting up a meeting sometime early next year to discuss what we can do. Once we know what exactly we are doing we will write a scenario and do the shoot in Leeds in the studio.

Please let me know if you are interested.

PS I am sure Cirque Du Soleil have a show where they combine a lot of live action and multimedia, just can't remember what it was.

Regards,

Taz
